Marbella moves a step closer to street video surveillance cameras in crime hotspots

  • Local residents and businesses have been requesting more security cameras for some time

Faced with pressure from residents and businesses to take action against crime, police in Marbella have identified four areas where they would like to have video cameras installed. The areas to be given priority are Puerto Banús, the Puerto Deportivo marina in the centre of the town, the car parks at La Cañada shopping centre and the shopping plaza in Elviria.

Police were asked in a special commission set up by Marbella council to say which areas they wanted. Permission will now be sought from the Junta de Andalucía and the national government before installation can go ahead. The exact number of cameras and their locations have not been defined.
