Marbella will host an annual Ironman event until 2021

The mayor of Marbella, José Bernal, has unveiled more details of the council’s agreement to host an Ironman trial every year in the town until 2021.

Announcing plans alongside councillor for Sport, Blanca Fernán, Bernal said that each event will generate 12.5 million euros for the resort from the extra overnight stays of the some 2,000 contestants and their families. In addition there will be a lot of extra publicity generated for Marbella.

The first event will be held on 29 April next year and will consist of a two-kilometre swim off Puerto Banús, a 90-kilometre bike race via Cártama and finally a 21-kilometre road race around the streets of Marbella.
