Campillos council has had to take extreme measures to combat the town’s water shortage, calling upon tanker trucks to deliver 75 tonnes of drinkable water to the town’s reservoirs, after the majority of the town went five days without supply this week.
Mayor Francisco Guerrero has criticised the regional government for not fulfilling their duty to modernise the piping system that supplies the town with water, which “has not worked properly for years”.
The provincial government has set aside 600,000 euros to spend on improving one kilometre of the piping, however this work will not begin until September, and therefore it is expected that tanker trucks will be employed to deliver drinking water to Campillos until autumn.
