The town of Pensacola in Florida, USA, is to have its own monument to Bernardo de Gálvez, the Spanish soldier who fought in the battle of Pensacola in 1781 against the British during the American War of Independence. The bronze statue will depict De Gálvez on his horse and lifting his hat as a sign of victory. The announcement coincided with ‘Gálvez Day‘ which is celebrated on 8 May every year in the town and at which representatives from Macharaviaya and Malaga were present this year.
