More than 500 people participated in the eighth edition of the San Isidro Solidarity Race in Cártama last Friday.
As in previous years, the race had been organised to raise awareness of the problems faced by the towns underprivileged families. In order to register, participants were required to donate one kilo of non-perishable food. These products will be distributed among the local families who need it most.
The five-kilometre street race was organised by the IES Valle del Azahar, a secondary school, and Cártama town hall.
Serious athletes and fun runners were accompanied by Jorge Gallardo, mayor of Cártama, Juan Rodríguez, councillor for sports, and several local school teachers.
Jesús González came in first place in the male category, while Celine Camerlynch triumphed in the female section.
The day concluded with a series of events held in the sports complex. These included races for primary school students and a variety of sporting activities, including football, basketball, padel and tennis.
