Three former mayors of Mijas have been called before a judge suspected of overpaying some staff up to a total of 100,000 euros a year.
The case centres on extra payments made to employees at the ‘Patronato de Deportes’, a municipal-owned company running sport operations in the area, between 1986 and 2014. Prosecutors allege that staff were paid extra money year after year for doing work that was part of their normal duties.
In the dock are former PSOE mayors, Antonio Sánchez and Agustín Moreno, as well as the town’s former PP mayor, Ángel Nozal. Other town officials are also to appear.
Nozal has stated that he cannot be blamed as he inherited a system of almost 30 years and his actions ended the system.
