SOS call from Malaga horse refuge

  • Sisters Concordia Márquez García and Virginia Solera García have called for more volunteers to join and further economic support

The CYD Santa María horse sanctuary in the town of Alhaurín el Grande has launched an SOS appeal in an attempt to prevent it from being forced to close.

Sisters Concordia Márquez García and Virginia Solera García have called for more volunteers to join, with the current situation seeing just five people managing facilities across 30,000 square metres.

The women in charge of the refuge have also demanded economic support, as they believe that more sponsors are needed than the 400 current organisations that contribute to the organisation financially.

The sanctuary has been open for 15 years now and the sisters have been involved in the treatment and care of more than 4,000 horses that have been abandoned or injured.
