After several protests by animal associations in Torremolinos, the town hall is finally taking measures to crack down on the multiple colonies of street cats that have established themselves in the town over the years.

The town hall announced on Monday the start of a programme to capture and sterilise street cats that would be run by the environment department of the council. They will establish a working group, made up of sanitation and animal protection professionals, that would first study, evaluate and follow these cats to create a census. The animals will then be processed, using the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) procedure, called for by animal activists in the town.
