Defibrillator installed in parish church for first time in province

La Encarnación church in Marbella has become the first in Malaga province to install a defibrillator.

Priest López Solórzano took the initiative to place a defibrillator in the church following the latest report from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (The Spanish Statistical Office), which states that heart-related illnesses are responsible for three out of every 10 deaths in Spain.

"I've seen that they have been installing defibrillators in busy areas and therefore I thought this type of building, which is also a tourist attraction in the old town, needed one," López stated.

The defibrillator has been placed in a discrete location to avoid it being stolen, while security cameras will also be used as a deterrent.
