The National Police detained a woman in Cuenca on Wednesday after she had previously taken her four-year-old son out of the Hospital Materno in Malaga, where he was awating a lung transplant.

The mother, 22, of Moroccan origin, was located at the train station with the child in her arms as she fled on the AVE high-speed train towards Valencia.

The child had turned blue, was drowsy, and had difficulty breathing and was attended to by the station's medic before being taken to hospital.

The woman has been charged with the omission of the duty of help but has since been released to look after her child after it appeared that she carried out the act, fearing for the child's and her own safety after threats from the father.
