Volunteers strutted their stuff on the catwalk to raise 370 euros during a charity fashion show in Duquesa on Thursday 16 September.

The event saw eight local women wearing clothes from a local charity shop in a bid to clear out summer stock whilst raising funds.

Around 60 people turned up for the show, which was held at the Kinsale pub in aid of the Duquesa Charitable Society of Saint George.

Organised by volunteers from the charity, models paraded the clothes through the bar, the terrace and the square outside the pub.

Gary Beaumont, Vice President of the charity, told SUR in English: "It was a great success.

"Events have been pretty much curtailed over the last 18 months due to the pandemic. So instead of the big fundraisers we used to do, we've started doing these pop-up fashion shows and the format works really well.

"You have to innovate and we've found that ideas that arise out of this situation actually work really well.

"It's more efficient to do these smaller events and they are a lot less hassle and easier to organise - and we've been invited back in November to do another one."

Gary, who is originally from Manchester and moved to the Costa del Sol in 1999, explained that this was the second such fundraiser they had done in the area this summer.

He added: "It was an entertaining evening. We had members of the public following the models off the catwalk saying 'I want that!'"

The Duquesa Charitable Society of Saint George originally opened in 2013 and was founded by a group of foreign residents.

The charity raises funds for local causes from two second hand shops in Sabinillas and one in Cancelada, a Sunday market and fundraising events throughout the year.
