  • A host of famous faces turned out for a number of red-carpet world premieres during the five-day event

Organisers are celebrating after staging the biggest Marbella International Film Festival to date. Now in its 14th year the event saw a number of films sold out during their world premieres.

Several British films premiered at the Teatro Goya cinema in Puerto Banús - Trick or Treat, Brighton and Rise of the Footsoldier: Spanish Heist. The festival also saw famous British actors stroll down the red carpets, including Larry Lamb, Kris Marshall and Jason Flemyng.

During the five-day movie festival, thousands of film fans enjoyed workshops, seminars and networking events held at the H10 Andalucía Plaza Hotel, where scores of industry professionals were on hand to give advice to budding directors and actors.

Festival director Mac Chakaveh, told SUR in English: "We're proud that we had so many premieres at the Marbella International Film Festival. They were all sold out well ahead of the event, so it's great that people are recognising the importance of the film festival.

"The festival has been 14 years in the making and we are obviously expanding each year. This has been the biggest festival yet."

Mac added that he is now planning some "big projects" for next year's film festival to build on the success of this year's event.

However, he remained tight-lipped on the developments as they are at an early stage.

The closing night of the festival saw the Gala Awards Dinner take place at the H10, where guests dressed in black ties and sleek dresses to find out who won in the different categories, before enjoying cocktails, live music and the rest of the closing ceremony.

The festival was launched in 2006 and works closely with the Marbella town hall and tourist board, Marbella Film Office and the Andalucía Film Commission.
