TIMS
Two-choir concert
On the evening of 17 May at the Margrethekirken Danish church in Las Lagunas, the International Music Society Choir, (TIMS), met the Ballerup Chamber Choir from Copenhagen in a concert of multinational music sung in several languages, including English, Danish and Spanish.
Each choir sang songs in their own particular style and it was lovely to hear the intricate a cappella arrangements of The Ballerup choir in songs from all the Scandinavian countries, USA and Spain. TIMS presented British songs, plus opera, musical theatre and Zarzuela. Inge Hartvig from TIMS and Natalie Bianco from Ballerup sang a duet.
At the end of the concert the two choirs sang a song by Elgar a capella and closed the programme with Love Changes Everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber. timschoir@gmail.com

The last 'Long Walk' will take the club to the Arab Steps near El Chorro today, Friday, and is followed by the dinner and dance on Saturday. The new Autumn season starts on 9 September and more information on the clubs activities can be found on the web site: www.thefieldcub.org.
The Arts Society Benahavís
Tour of Jaén
The Arts Society of Benahavís recently visited the province of Jaén on a tour of Úbeda, Baeza and Jaén itself to see the Renaissance architecture, vestiges of the golden age of the sixteenth century.
Guides showed the group around the spacious, light-filled Cathedral in Baeza and the Moorish baths in Jaén among other sites.
The highlight of the tour was probably the Synagogue in Úbeda.
Buried in the fourteenth century, when the Jews fled the country at the time of the Reconquest, the synagogue was only rediscovered in 2007. Complete with Jewish artefacts including cooking vessels and the mikveh, or purification bath, which can still be used today, after seven hundred years of lying buried under rubble and rubbish.
This three-day outing was the last of the society's trips until October, for more information contact:. www.theartssocietybenahavis.com
