The 'warrior nuns' film for Netflix in Antequera

Producers for the series, based on the comic book Warrior Nun Areala, have chosen numerous locations in the town

Santa María church is just one of several locations in Antequera that have been transformed in the last few weeks for the filming of new Netflix series Warrior Nun.

Other locations include the walled areas of the town, as well as the Jesús and San Juan de Dios churches, but it is the sixteenth-century Renaissance church which had to undergo the biggest transformation. Murals of Templars, angels and dragons have been installed while the sacristy has been turned into an improvised library with dark red wallpaper.

The plot is based on a comic book story of a young woman who wakes up on a slab in the morgue and discovers she has extraordinary powers.

Filming of the series, which has also taken place in Marbella and Malaga, will resume in Antequera from 23 May with further scenes in the Plaza de los Escribanos, Plaza del Portichuelo and the Alcazaba.
