  • One of the walks, in support of suicide and self harm prevention charity Pieta House, will take place this Saturday, 11 May, in Estepona

The Darkness Into Light charity association welcomed Ireland's ambassador to Spain, Sile Maguire, from Madrid this week to support their cause ahead of the group's annual walk on Saturday, 11 May.

The Darkness Into Light walk in support of a suicide and self harm prevention charity Pieta House was first held in Dublin 11 years ago and represents the therapeutic counselling journey, highlighting the importance of mental health and wellbeing. Since then it has grown into a worldwide movement with 200,000 people all simultaneously joining the walk last year at 202 venues in 19 different countries.

In Spain, 230 participants joined the event in Estepona and another 80 in Alicante. This year the goal is to have 500 and 200, respectively, when it kicks off on 11 May at 5.30am. The walk in Estepona will start from in Calle Terral beside Bronzzzano Beach Club.

The entry fee (25 euros for adults) allows Pieta House and partners (in this case Afesol Salud Mental) to continue to deliver vital services.

Registration can be done online (www.darknessintolight.ie) or via email (costadelsol@darknessintolight.ie).
