The Asociacion Gatos de Manilva (AGDM) received over 200 euros as well as tins of cat food thanks to cat lovers at the Costa Women group.

Now following the cash injection the charity is looking for volunteers to help them look after abandoned cats in the Costa del Sol town.

The first fundraiser saw a local branch of the Costa Women group hold a demonstration of floral art design on 28 November in Casares Costa, where organisers donated all admission fees and proceeds to the charity - totalling 95 euros.

The popular women's club then raised a further 107 euros during their annual Christmas lunch on 4 December in Estepona.

Melissa White, event coordinator for the AGDM, told SUR in English: "We are so happy with the positive response from the Costa Women group for helping local street animals in need. In particular the donation of canned and dry food was a big help to the charity at this time of year. The funds will help the charity continue their essential work with street cats and improve the community in Manilva."

Melissa explained that one of the main actions of the charity is to trap, neuter and release cats to control their numbers in Manilva.

In addition, the charity works with Manilva's Environmental Department, provides education about street cats to the general public and focuses on the adoption of suitable cats and kittens.

Charity bosses at the AGDM are now seeking volunteers to temporarily foster kittens before they are homed, drive cats to and from the vets, help out with admin, fundraising and shelter-building.

Melissa added that donations of food, cat litter and pre-used cat carriers are always welcomed.

What's more, on Thursday 20 December the charity is organising a three-course lunch at La Pappardella restaurant in Laguna Village, Estepona. The lunch costs 40 euros and includes a welcome drink with wine, in aid of AGDM. For more information contact the restaurant on 952807354.
