TIMS choir

Anniversary concert

The International Music Society mixed choir recently held a concert to celebrate 30 years of choral singing on the Costa del Sol. The performance took place at the Avanto Restaurant in La Cala de Mijas.

The choir was accompanied by Ricky Lavazza and Juliet Williams, both well known singers on the Costa, who sang Broadway hits such as Miss Saigon and Last Night of the World.

After the interval, the Luna Llena Duo; Simona Mango, a well-known Italian mezzo-soprano; and guitarist Bruce Reynold performed, followed by Juliet and Ricky with songs from Chicago, Aspects of Love and Les Miserables.

Phoenix College

Opening celebrations

Students and teachers came together in Malaga recently to celebrate the opening of Phoenix College. The centre is the first sixth form college of its kind on Spanish mainland and provides A-Level classes in subjects such as Applied Maths, Physics, Geography and Politics for students with a high level of English. Many of the students aspire to attend Cambridge, Oxford or other British universities when they finish school and the college is an official UCAS centre for the application process.

La Cala de Mijas Lions

Christmas fair

La Cala de Mijas Lions recently held a Christmas fair in order to raise funds for underprivileged families in the community. The Stagecoach Performing Arts group, Costa Soul singers and A Touch of Class entertained the public. Stalls, Father Christmas, a fashion show, raffles, and a tombola helped to raise 3,440 euros. At the end of the day, cheques were presented to PAWS and The Royal British Legion.
