Retired SUR in English editor Liz Parry is one of three journalists who will be awarded the Medalla de Honor del Periodista by the Malaga Press Association in the new year, the organisation has confirmed.

Liz, who was awarded the British Empire Medal by Queen Elizabeth II last year, will receive this recognition for her three decades of service to SUR in English, first as a reporter, then later as editor until her retirement in 2016.

She also helped set up SUR's German and Russian editions, as well as Andalucía Costa del Golf.

During her career Liz contributed articles to publications such as The Daily Telegraph and the former Lookout magazine, picking up a number of awards including the Costa Press Club Communicator Award and the journalism award from the Association of Clinical Pathologists.

Adolfo Arjona, head of the radio COPE Málaga for 25 years, and Juan Gaitán, press officer for the Mancomunidad of the Western Costa del Sol, will also receive medals from the Press Association.
