The Social Services department of Torremolinos town hall has made a donation of 10,000 euros to the Cudeca Cancer Hospice in Benalmádena.

The grant was made in recognition of the social and humanitarian work the foundation offers to cancer patients and their families that live in Torremolinos. The gesture reinforces the institutional commitment made by Torremolinos town hall for the first time in 2017.

Last year, the town hall donated 8,000 euros to the charity, with a promise to continue supporting the organisation in the future. This year's grant was approved in the council's plenary meeting in June, which set aside a total of 105,000 euros to be divided among five local charitable associations.

During the presentation held in Torremolinos last week, councillor for Social Services, Pedro Pérez, highlighted the "important daily humanitarian work offered by Cudeca to patients and families affected by cancer; offering human kindness and psychological treatment, as well as palliative care at the end of the patient's life."

Marisa Martín, Cudeca medical director, said, "Ever since Cudeca was founded we have understood that the only way forward is to get people and institutions to believe in us and become part of the project."

She pointed out that Cudeca's commitment is to continue to serve anyone who needs help to the extent permitted by its resources, but she also expressed concern about the rapid growth of cancer cases.

"We are concerned that in the last five years the number of patients we have cared for has doubled and that is a very fast growth to respond to," she said.
