  • Almuñécar's 20th gastronomy fair gets underway today and promises a weekend not only of food, but cocktails and gin and tonic too

Almuñécar, on the Costa Tropical, is celebrating 20 years of gastronomy this weekend, with the annual Feria Gastronómica in the town's Parque El Majuelo.

The event, which is organised by the Almuñécar Valle Tropical hospitality association, officially opens at 1pm today.

Seventeen local establishments, including Mesón El Corzo, Gastrobar De la Flor, Restaurante La China, Yo como menú, Asador Casa La Parra, Mesón Mari y Miguel, Salitre Playa, Internacional Kelibia, Mesón Gala, La Despensa de la Abuela, Taberna Ayer, La Choza, Pizzería Da Mario, Puchero de Helena, Bar Bikini, Heladería-Cafetería Daniel and Distribuciones Gomezcor, will be participating in the fair.

A gin and tonic workshop will be held at 5pm today and is open to professionals. From 9pm there will be special promotions on cocktails as well as the start of a tapas competition and the winner will be announced on Saturday at around 1pm.

There will be more cocktail offers on Saturday starting at 4pm and on Friday and Saturday there will be dancing at 8pm. Alma Marinera will be performing on Friday while on Saturday the Sabor a Mar dance troupe will be on the stage.

More dancing will come on Sunday at 1pm from Andalucía Baila before the event closes at 6pm.
