Anyone visiting Malaga will soon be familiar with the Spanish custom of enjoying churros in the morning or mid-afternoon.

Churros, long, extruded fingers of dough (some establishments cook them in a spiral) that are deep fried and sprinkled with salt, are eaten by young and old, accompanied with a cup of steaming hot chocolate for dipping.

And it is not just in the winter that they are enjoyed. It is a common sight to see the churros van at the summer fairs although they are usually eaten as a late night or early morning snack.

It is believed that the Moors brought the original recipe, the basic ingredients were listed in a cookery book from the thirteenth century, little has changed since.
