RAF Association

Calling all serving or ex-RAF

The Costa del Sol Branch of the RAF Association wants new members. The club offers friendship, help and support to the 'RAF family'. This includes current and former serving RAF personnel, their spouses, widows, widowers and other dependants. From something as simple as a chat to financial support in a time of need, the Association is there to help.

The majority of this support is delivered by local branch members, on a voluntary basis. The RAF Association Branch brings together like-minded people and arranges social events ranging from informal quiz nights to a formal dinner and dance with entertainment.

Anyone who is serving or who has served in the RAF, or just wants to offer support can come along to one of the meetings. The first Tuesday in the month the club meets at Restaurante Los Morenos, Alhaurín el Grande at midday and the third Monday in the month at Bar El Jardín, Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena at 2pm. The RAF Association runs the annual Wings Week appeal and local branch volunteers are often at the Iceland store in Mijas raising funds to help those in need.

La Cala Lions Club

Donation to the homeless

President of the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club, Julie Barry, recently presented a cheque for 9,053.22 euros to Joyce Gyimah, founder of the homeless association ADINTRE. The money will be used to purchase a massive fridge freezer to go into their new premises in Fuengirola.

Joyce started working, on her own, for the homeless in 2002. From this small beginning, she now has over 80 volunteers helping her at the centre where those in need can receive food, clothes, furniture, take a shower and participate in workshops to learn a trade, enabling them to get back into society.

Funds, donated by the Lions Club, are raised through many Lions events and the 50 volunteers in the shop in Calle Torremolinos, La Cala de Mijas.
