Age Concern

New branch for Age Concern

The executive committee of the new Marbella and San Pedro branch of Age Concern Age Concern, with president Tom Burns, last week made an official visit to San Pedro district town hall to be introduced to the district mayor for the town, Rafael Piña.

The meeting was to discuss the organisation's plans and requirements in terms of a location suitable for holding training sessions and occasional lectures.

The new Age Concern branch is planning to be in full swing by the New Year. This includes the launch of a recruitment programme for volunteers. Current volunteers visit two local residential homes as well as carrying out home visits. There are also many exciting new projects being developed for launch for which new volunteers are needed.

Coffee mornings are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Nueva Alcántara padel and tennis club in San Pedro (call 952 788 315 for more information).

The Age Concern help line for Marbella and San Pedro is now operational for advice or assistance (689 355 198).

Autumn Ball

Over 80 members of the Friends of the Theatre Association (FOTA) recently gathered at Restaurant Valparaiso for their Autumn Ball and to celebrate the forthcoming 80th birthday of Colin Pollard.

Maggie Dobson paid tribute to Colin, the Salon Varietés' esteemed Old Time Music Hall (OTMH) chairman. Colin first played Master of Ceremonies for OTMH at the age of 28 and has continued to do so on a regular basis for over 52 years. As well as performing in OTMH, plays and one man shows, Colin has also played the villain in panto.

He will be taking part in the panto Cinderella which is being staged from 20-23 December and 2-5 January.

American Club

The American Club Thanksgiving celebrations were held at the Restaurant Valparaiso on 23 November. Proceeds from the event are going to the Malaga orphanage to help make the children's Christmas more enjoyable.
