The Smile Foundation has donated 2,000 euros to the family of Carmen García, a 20-month-old baby who suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS).
The money was raised from a bottle-top campaign conducted by employees and customers of CLC World in Mijas. The campaign, which accumulated 2,000 kilos of plastic bottle tops, began last year and The Smile Foundation pledged to donate one euro for every kilo of tops collected.
During a presentation held in CLC World on Wednesday (assisted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse), Carmen's mother, Laura, thanked the charity for their help and assistance. The presentation was attended by Beatriz Zambruno and Hernán Lara, ambassadors of the Smile Foundation, and Laura Moreno, a representative of Mijas town hall, who said: I would like to thank the Smile Foundation for their continued help, dedication and generosity.
Approximately one in every 15,000 children is born with Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by loss of function of specific genes in new-born children. Symptoms include weak muscles and slow development and often lead to obesity and diabetes.
There is no medical prevention or cure, but early and accurate diagnosis is essential. Specialised care in infancy helps improve the neuropsychological performance of the sufferer, which in turn helps the family, as the children are able to socially integrate .
The Smile Foundation was set up by CLC World in Spain to support organisations on the Costa del Sol. The organisation has sponsored numerous good causes and supported many individuals, charities and organisations since it was formed in 1999.
