The hillside village of Alozaina, in the Sierra de las Nieves, hosted its Ruta de Arte (art route) once again last weekend.

Some 16 artists residing or working in the village opened their homes and studios to the public on a special walking route through the streets of whitewashed houses.

On display was a wide variety of painting, drawings and crafts, including striking contemporary styles and more traditional creations. Many of the creatives in the village are from other countries.

The event, which attracted locals from surrounding villages as well as tourists discovering inland Malaga province, ran from Friday to Sunday.

At the official opening on Thursday evening, well-known Australian artist Ian de Souza gave a speech.

One visitor who admired the works, Andrea Bolwig, told SUR in English, “Apart from the fact that it was so well organised, it was sheer joy to have the privilege of visiting so many artists in the one location, seeing their works and their homes.”

The route, organised by the town hall, was being held for the third time.
