Auditions for Musical Hall

The Salon Varietés theatre in Fuengirola is holding auditions for their new show 'Olde Tyme Music Hall Rip-Roaring Revue' on Friday 10 November.

Male and female character performers with strong vocal, acting and movement skills between 18 and 95 years old are required. Also four showgirls with good dance ability between 18 and 28 years old.

Royal British Legion Coín

Poppy Appeal dinner dance

Fifty members and guests of the Coín Branch of the Royal British Legion launched the 2017 Poppy Appeal with a dinner dance at La Parilla de Pepe on Saturday 28 October.

Retiring Poppy Appeal Officer Paul Pritchard, with his replacement George Chaney, arranged the evening that raised 406 euros.

Karen Kooper entertained with a selection of songs from the 50s and 60s while Ricky Leach joined Karen in several excellent duets.

La Cala de Mijas Lions

Donating to ADIMI

The President of the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club, Julie Barry, recently presented the vice president of ADIMI, Jacinta Muñoz, with a cheque for 4,349 euros.

The money will be used to purchase diagnostic equipment for The Association of the Disabled in Mijas, a charity which was founded in 1999. The town hall gave them the land to build the hospital and day centre which was inaugurated on 30 June this year. Most of the funds to run the centre comes from the Junta de Andalucía, Mijas town hall, families of the disabled and donations.

The Lions' next event will be the Christmas Fayre at the Tamisa Golf Hotel on 3 December, 11.30am. There will be stalls, Costa Soul singers and Father Christmas.

On 9 December at the El Olivo restaurant in La Cala, there will be a Christmas Dinner and Dance with music from the Revival band. Tickets are 45 euros, which includes wine, beer and soft drinks to midnight and can be obtained from the Lions Shop on Calle Torremolinos 12 or by calling 677059061.

Buena Vista Petanca Group

Halloween cup

There was a close finish to Buena Vista Petanca Group's annual Halloween Cup competition on Monday 30 October, with just two points separating the winners and runners-up.

The mixed doubles event, held at Torrox Park, was won by Brian Pearce and Dave Tomlin with three wins and 23 points. Runners-up were Keith Bourne and Gwyn Wallace with three wins and plus 21 points.

Grateful thanks were sent to Martin Cook for organising the competition.

Miraflores Golf

Potters Leisure visit

Friday saw a visit to Miraflores by Potters Leisure which operates the largest bowls facility in UK.

World number one, Greg Harlow, led a large group of people from all over the country who were visiting Malaga as part of a bowling/cruising holiday.

They had been due to play three matches in Spain but all were cancelled due to storm Brian with only Miraflores able to accommodate the change of date.

The Rat Pack and Mel Williams

Owners of the Route 66 restaurant in Puerto Banús, Nigel Wilson and Patrick Deane, for organised a special event to raise money for Cudeca Cancer Hospice.

The Rat Pack and Mel Williams performed at the concert which raised 580 euros for the charity.
