Clubs and associations in Andalucía are busy organising activities and fundraising this autumn and some are already planning Christmas events

Lux Mundi Fuengirola

Trips, quizzes and Christmas

The next outing planned by the Lux Mundi group will be 8 November to visit the town of Alcalá La Real, famous for its Arabic fortress, La Mota. There will also be a chance to visit the cheese factory and lunch and insurance are included in the price of 39¤.

Lux Mundi hold a quiz night every month. The next one is on 9 November at 6.30pm. A light hearted evening with one free drink and snack included, and prizes for the first and second team winners. Peter Cadman will be the host.

They are also preparing for Christmas early with a Chrstmas Bazaar at the Lux Mundi centre on 23 November. Events for the autumn

The photography group is a chance to learn to take great photos with Bob Pell Photography. From beginners to the more experienced photographer, regardless of the type of camera and use.

This season the club will be looking at the various styles of photography and computer software with monthly themes and photo challenges. Tuesday 24 October, 4pm.

Friends of Lux Mundi will also be going on an excursion to Alhama de Granada and Río Frío. The trip includes a visit to the Centro de Interpretation, housed in the former jail, where there is information about the history and the sights of the town. There is also a chance to enjoy view of the Los Tajos gorge and a guided tour, in English, of the historical town.

Tickets costing 24¤ are available from the centre.

On 8 November there will be an autumn and winter fashion show at the centre. Starting at 3.30pm, there will be an opportunity to purchase new and nearly new clothes, shoes and accessories.

Christmas panto auditions

The traditional Christmas panto this year will be a production of Cinderella directed by Peter Mitchell and choreography by Peter Height.

Production dates are 20 December to 23 December and 2 January to the 5 January, including matinee performances on the 23rd, 3rd and 5th. All performers must be available for all production dates and at least a week before.

Salon Varietés are looking for: Cinderella, Buttons, Grizelda Hardup,Prince Charming, Dandini, the Fairy Godmother, the Chamberlain, as well as a chorus of villagers, servants and children. Please try to prepare a song to sing for the audition.

Hunting for treasure

On October 1st, 30 members and friends of TRBL Mollina took part in an tour of inland Andalucia in search of a pot of gold.

Organised and sponsored by The English House based in Écija,the tour took them through the villages of Humillidaros, Sierre de Yeguas and Pedrera before arriving at the Monasterio de Santa Clara where treasure hunters took part in a quiz.

'Sheila's Wheels' were the winning team of which the branch chairman, Steve Taylor, was a member. The event raised 350 euros for the Poppy Appeal. The RBL Mollina meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 11am at La Viña residential park and can be contacted via the stall on Saydo market.

Age Concern Marbella / San Pedro

Fundraising lunch

Members of Age Concern Marbella and San Pedro area took part in a fundraising lunch to raise money for the charity.

They sat down to a three-course meal in the sunshine at the Links bar in Aloha Pueblo. Singer Sam Oliver provided the entertainment and took part in the auction offering a two hours singing performance. Nicole King from RTV television filmed the event for the Marbella Now programme and at the end of the day, 1,400 euros had been raised.

Taking the talk to school

Doug Gillen, recent lecturer for the Benahavís Decorative and Fine Arts Society, gave a talk about Hidden Canvasses / Street Art at Laude International School in San Pedro. Students from Swans International and Mayfair Academy joined the Laude students as the lecturer talked about the rise of street art, from its beginnings as grafitti, to Banksy, American Shephard Fairey's Paz y Libertad at the CAC, and in Tarifa the mural by Axel Void who was raised in Spain from the age of three.

Shutterbugs

A decade of photographs

Shutterbugs' Photographic Group will be holding their 10th Exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura in Alhaurín el Grande from 16 to 27 October. Breaking with tradition, this year there will be no subject just 'photographer's choice' with 56 plus photographs on display also featuring a black and white/monochrome section.

The exhibition will be opened at 8pm on 16 October by María Jesús Fernández from the town council.

During the evening there will be a finger buffet and drinks. Also, Alhaurín el Grande TV will be present to film the opening, the photographic exhibits and visitors. Shutterbugs welcomes new members, whether a complete novice or experienced photographers. www.shutterbugs-spain.org

La Cala de Mijas Lions

A cheque for Cudeca

Julie Barry, the President of the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club, recently presented Joan Hunt, the honorary president and founder of Cudeca, with a cheque for ¤6,177.60 for the purchase items used for chemotherapy and pain relief for Cudeca's patients.

The La Cala Lions have purchased a wide range of items for the hospice during more than 10 years of support, including such items as televisions, staff uniforms, trolleys, tables, beds, and patient hoists.

The Lions Charity shop in La Cala, at C/ Torremolinos 12, now has a wide selection of high quality autumn and winter clothes. They also urgently need some more volunteers to cover a few hours a week, any time between Monday and Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
