The president of La Cala de Mijas Lions Club, Paul Butler, presented the director of Mijas Spanish Federation Football Club, Francisco Rosales, with a cheque for 900 euros this week.
The Lions Club have raised the money in order to help the club fund the participation of children whose parents cannot afford to pay the monthly 18 euro fee that the football club requires from the majority of its members. This is the second instalment the football club has received from the Lions and Francisco was extremely grateful for their generosity.
The secretary and treasurer of the club, Nina Teresa Bjerkestrand and Soledad Balma, also attended the presentation of the cheque, and introduced the Lions to the children on the pitch.
They explained how they are continually looking for sponsors and putting on fundraising events to help young people in the community.
The football club, that trains at Los Olivos pitch, welcomes all ages, male or female. This year they had between 18 to 20 teams, with the youngest player aged just 5 and the oldest in his late thirties. With the help of the Lions’ 900 euro donation the club hope to go from strength to strength next season.
