A Mijas resident received an extra special surprise when she arrived at the Casa de Cultura last week, as she was handed the keys to a brand new mobility scooter that was donated by the La Cala Lions Club.

Paul Butler, the club president, presented Ana Blanco with the new scooter in a ceremony that was attended by mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado.

The La Cala Lions Club, which began in 1999, had donated a scooter to Ana some years ago, but because it is now unreliable due to general wear and tear, the Lions decided that it was time to replace it.

The scooter, designed in the distinctive livery of the club, will enable the pensioner to go about her daily routine without worry.

Anas old scooter had been breaking down so often she had been unable to get around the town, but now, thanks to the generosity of the Lions, Ana will be able to go about her business in style.

La Cala de Mijas Lions Club are continuously raising funds to help the local community and they have two events coming up in December; the first of which is a Christmas Fayre to be held in the Hotel Tamisa Golf on Sunday 4 December.

The second is a black tie Christmas dinner and dance in the El Olivo restaurant in La Cala on Saturday 10 December.

Anita Humphreys, the Lions press officer, said: The support of the public is vital to our success in helping those in need.
