An emergency, of sorts

Rob Palmer

Just when Manchester United thought they’d cornered the market of bizarre winter signings, Barcelona turn up and blow them out of the water. Odion Ighalo’s unexpected transfer from the Chinese Super League to the Premier League appeared to be the ... wackiest move until Martin Braithwaite headed from La Liga club to La Liga club long after the winter transfer window had slammed shut. We all knew that clubs could make an emergency goalkeeper signing if your shot-stopper is injured, but who knew you

Pilar Martínez

...for all hotels to close. This loyal client, who was spending two months in Torremolinos for the fourth consecutive winter, insisted that he was booked in until the end of April and the best thing would be for him to stay in the hotel. He didn't care ... same problem. They found themselves confined in Spain with nowhere to go. Regular winter guests Professionals in the sector say most of the last tourists in hotels on the Costa were regular clients who have been coming to spend the winter months ... here for years. "About 70 per cent of my clients in the winter come for three to four months," said one hotel manager, but he cut the conversation short because he was overcome with emotion. We kept hearing words like "catastrophe" and "total

Gullibility proves costly

Rob Palmer

It's that time of year when the agents, friends of agents and 'influencers' get themselves busy as the winter transfer window creaks open. If you see me on a Costa boardwalk over the next couple of weeks please don't let them know back home, I'm ... trading. The last significant winter sale was Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool to Barcelona for a reported 140 million euros. Look how that turned out; he never settled and was soon sent out on loan. It's amazing how often players move between La Liga
