Spain at growing risk of extreme weather

Spain is now the 38th most vulnerable country to climate change, according NGO Germanwatch. Speaking at the COP25 on Wednesday, Germanwatch researcher Laura Schafer said "Extreme heatwaves are between 10 and 100 times more likely in Europe than a ... century ago". Both heatwaves and storms will become more frequent in Spain as climate change progresses.

2019 to round off the hottest decade in history

2019 will be the second or third hottest year since records began, capping off the hottest decade on record, according to the World Meteorological Organisation. Petteri Taalas, the organisation's general secretary, explained that "Heatwaves and ... the two degrees agreed upon in the 2015 Paris Agreement; in fact, at current rates, the world is heading towards four or five degrees of warming. This year saw record heatwaves in France, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany.
