The Gálvez museum (Museo de los Gálvez) in Macharaviaya opened its doors to the public once again on Saturday, 10 months later than planned, following an auguration ceremony which took place at the town's Jacinto church. Mayor Antonio Campos Garín ... bring life to the Gálvez family story. The museum, which first opened in 2005, pays tribute to the illustrious Gálvez family, who were politically influential both in Spain and the United States during the eighteenth century and who made Macharaviaya ... their home. Bernardo de Gálvez, who was born in the village in 1746, was a Spanish politician and soldier who led the Battle of Pensacola during the American War of Independence, blocking the British advance into Mississippi across the port of New
