Customs arrest man for cigarette smuggling

Customs officers on a routine patrol in Gibraltar arrested a Spanish man who was carrying a "commercial quantity" of cigarettes on board a boat leaving the Ocean Village marina around midday on Thursday. The crew of the Customs boat Tango II ... cigarettes of different brands in the inflatable craft. There were 1,500 packets in total, containing 30,000 cigarettes. The man was arrested for the possession of a commercial amount of cigarettes and for being knowingly concerned in the exportation of ... the same. The authorities also confiscated the haul of cigarettes.

Cigarette haul confiscated by Customs

Thanks to a sharp-eyed passer-by, the customs authorities in Gibraltar were able to confiscate a large haul of cigarettes from two Spanish-plated vehicles on Tuesday, 20 February. A member of the public noticed that a car which was parked at the ... ICC contained a large amount of cigarettes, and rang the authorities to report the matter. When officers came to investigate, they searched two vehicles in the car park, both Spanish registered, and discovered that they contained 649 cartons of ... various brands of cigarettes. No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is continuing. The customs authorities say they are always grateful for information of this type, and they can be contacted by phoning 20046731.

...paper and even nappies lying around? That's not even talking about the endless spraying about of disgusting cigarette butts. The thing is, I (almost) never actually see anyone dumping all this crap, so when, where and whom does it come from? Doing ... you know what? Those of us who only complain, or worse even, say nothing at all and seem to accept it all, are just as culpable as the person who flicks a burning cigarette out of his/her car and dumps litter alongside the road or in nature. Over 5,500 cigarette packs seized at airport

SUR.

Customs officers on duty at Malaga airport have seized almost 3,000 packets of loose tobacco and over 5,500 packets of cigarettes in two separate recent finds in the arrivals area. The latest was last week when two passengers arriving on a plane ... from Rome were spotted behaving suspiciously. According to Guardia Civil sources, on closer inspection of their luggage, the officers uncovered 5,520 cigarette packets of different brands concealed inside.
