The Volotea airline will be operating flights between Bilbao and Gibraltar on Tuesdays and Fridays this summer, starting on 2 July. This is significant news as it will be the only service between Gibraltar and a Spanish destination for many years.
Volotea was founded in 2011 by Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros, previously founders of Vueling, and is one of the fastest-growing independent airlines in Europe, increasing year-on-year its fleet, routes served, and seats offered. Since its start, Volotea has carried more than 30 million passengers across Europe.
Gibraltar's Minister for Tourism, Vijay Daryanani, says he is delighted at this new route, and is sure it will be welcomed by the local tourism and business community, as well as people living in and near Gibraltar who now have the opportunity to visit Bilbao and its nearby areas.
