Gibraltar flew the Union Flag on its emblematic Moorish castle on Saturday 6 February, to mark the 69th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne in 1952, upon the death of her father, King George VI.

The Governor of Gibraltar, Sir David Steel, and the government of Gibraltar paid tribute to Her Majesty as she entered the 70th year of her reign.

The Queen has paid one visit to the Rock, in May 1954, and was accompanied by Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
