It was announced this week that the new Governor of Gibraltar is to be Vice-Admiral Sir David Steel KBE, DL, who will be taking up his new post in June.

Sir David retired from a full career in the Royal Navy as a Vice Admiral and as Second Sea Lord, and like Gibraltar's chief minister Fabian Picardo, is also a Master of the Bench at the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, one of four Inns of Court in England and Wales.

In response to the announcement, the Gibraltar government issued a statement welcoming the news, and Mr Picardo said all in Gibraltar would be looking forward to welcoming Sir David to the Rock next month.
