Next stage of the restoration of the Grand Battery beside Casemates Square is under way

  • The first phase of the works included the removal of a World War Two blast wall, which exposed a series of eighteenth century fire steps

A further stage of restoration works is being carried out on the Grand Battery, one of the key military monuments which formed part of Gibraltar's Northern Defences.

The first phase of the works included the removal of a World War Two blast wall, which exposed a series of eighteenth century fire steps hidden behind it along the northern defensive wall. These steps will be repaired and reconstructed where necessary as part of the present works.

The Grand Battery is next to Casemates Square, and once the restoration is completed the area will be used to display some of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment's artillery pieces.
