Excavation works at the Gorham's Cave World Heritage Site, which was the last known home of the Neanderthals, are due to begin again in early May and students from Leiden university in the Netherlands will be taking part.

This year the excavations in Gorham's and Vanguard's caves will last for three months instead of two, thanks to the inclusion of the students from Leiden. The team will be supervised by Gibraltar National Museum personnel.

A similar collaboration with Liverpool's John Moores university three years ago proved very successful, and now students from John Moores are doing one-year internships at the Museum.
