The first phase of a project to revamp the emblematic Lower St Michael's Cave has now been completed. The works involved a major clean-up, removal of the old electrical cabling and conduit system and the installation of new LED lighting along the main entrance and throughout the cave.
An office with storage facilities for equpment has also been provided to assist guides when conducting tours.
The forthcoming phases will include information panels at the entrance of the Cave to provide details about the history of Lower St Michael's, rock formations and general information. There will also be improved access to the pathway leading up to the entrance of the Cave as well as a new staircase inside the cave at the start of tour.
Lower St Michael's cave is not open to the public and can only be visited by pre-booking a tour with a qualified guide. Tours normally last around 3 hours.
