Several hundred people packed the emblematic St Michael's Cave to hear the European Symphony Orchestra last Tuesday evening in Gibraltar.

The Autumn Classical Concert featured one of Europe's leading clarinettists, Matthew Hunt, and world-famous conductor, Howard Shelley.

Organised by the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society, the two-hour concert featured works by Mozart, Weber and Beethoven.

Set against the backdrop of the caves and its stalactites, the orchestra braved the humidity and the dripping inside from the ceiling to receive several standing ovations during the performance.

Shelley proved a humorous and lively conductor, who kept the crowd entertained with his wit while a minor instrument malfunction delayed the start of the second part of the concert.
