It was a glittering occasion, and not only in terms of the fabulous fashions being modelled on the catwalk: a few glittering tears of emotion were also shed on the evening of 21 April at Grand Battery House in Gibraltar, as over 300 people watched cancer survivors strut their stuff to promote their positive message: Together, We Can Beat Cancer.
This variety and fashion show is an annual event to raise funds for the Bosom Buddies breast cancer charity. Sonia Golt, who is the chairperson of the charity and a breast cancer survivor, explained that it is also a way of demonstrating to the world that people diagnosed with breast cancer can still look and feel confident after their treatment.
Also taking part in the show this year was local businessman and former international model Luisandro Moreno, who fought a hard battle to overcome chronic myeloid leukemia and is now a fundraiser and a campaigner to encourage people to register as bone marrow donors.
As well as the fashion show, the evening included body painting displays (the event coincided with Gibraltar’s 5th International Face & Body Painting Festival) and a traditional Moroccan dance demonstration, performed by Susan Soiza. All proceeds are being donated to the charity.
