  • In his first Christmas message, Lt. Gen. Edward Davis highlighted the unity on the Rock

In his first Christmas message since becoming Governor of Gibraltar, Lieutenant General Edward Davis thanked the local population for the warm and friendly welcome he and his wife Lorraine had received from the very first moment they arrived on the Rock, and he highlighted the extraordinary unity they have both noticed among local people.

His Excellency said he had been inspired by the "ambition, innovation and boldness" of the Gibraltarian people, all attributes which would stand them in good stead in the future.

There may be challenges ahead for global Gibraltar, he said, but those attributes will overcome them, and the spirit, prosperity and reputation of the Rock will be maintained. He stressed his conviction that "Her Majesty The Queen will be as proud of Gibraltar in 2017 as she is in 2016."
