Trabuco and Rosario get no flood aid from Junta

Despite an agreement being reached last year, the Junta de Andalucía will not be assisting the towns of Villanueva del Trabuco and Villanueva del Rosario repair damage from flooding in 2012.
The announcement has come as a shock to Villanueva del Rosario mayor, José Antonio González, whose town was one of the worst affected by the floods of September 2012. The mayor said that the regional authority’s decision not to provide funds to help the town recover “goes against talks and promises that were made to provide us with help” so that the town’s infrastructure could be repaired.
The torrential rains caused 3.5 million euros’ worth of damage in Villanueva del Rosario and five million euros’ worth in Villanueva del Trabuco.
“It affects the well-being of residents, who are still recovering from the flooding,” said González.
The two towns did receive aid from the central government (183,334 euros for Rosario and 462,503 euros for Trabuco) just a few weeks ago.
