For the fourth annual year, Roger Cummiskey has organised a reading on the beach for Bloomsday. The group will read from Ulysses and can dress in costume or beachwear. Participants who attend the event are encouraged to read their pieces in their own language. Readings will begin at 8:00am on the beach, followed by swimming and paddling. At 9:30am the group will adjourn to the local beach bar, La Cepa Playa.
Bloomsday is a day in which James Joyce fans come together to commemorate the life of the author. The celebration takes place in more than 60 countries worldwide. The novel, Ulysses, by James Joyce narrates the events of one day in Dublin – 16 June, 1904 – as the protagonist, Leopold Bloom, journeys through the urban landscape. The book is considered one of the most important books of Modernist literature.
