Any business on the Andalusian tourist register is eligible. :: SUR
The Junta de Andalucía’s department of tourism and business has made available a new assistance fund of 1.5 million euros to improve tourist services and products in the area. Small and medium sized tourism businesses that are signed up to the ‘Registro de Turismo de Andalucía’ are all eligible and the application process runs until May 15th.
Financial assistance from the fund, which is 80 per cent financed by the European Regional Development Fund (known as FEDER in Spain), can form up to 30 per cent of the project’s budget, up to a maximum sum of 200,000 euros.
“Among the initiatives proposed so far are upgrading or adaptation works on hotel computer systems, the provision of new technology for travel agents, improving wheelchair accessibility, and the creation of new routes linked to gastronomy, nature, culture or sport,” said the Junta.
The owners of tourist apartments, ‘casas rurales’ or tourist accommodation in the countryside who want to achieve a higher category are able to apply for the funds. Also eligible are ‘chiringuitos’ wanting to improve their access to the beach and restaurants offering typical Andalusian food that would like to modernise. Those who design and create products that help to increase the region’s competitiveness in the tourist market are welcome, too, to apply.
Interested businesses can present their applications to the Junta or through the relevant website: www.juntadeandalucia.es/turismocomercioydeporte/.
