As part of the SUR in English 30th year anniversary a golf tour will be taking place in the coming months at five courses along the Costa delSol.
The event was officially launched yesterday morning at the Villa Padierna Golf Club in Banahavís and was attended by Michael Campbell who has opened a new golf academy at the club.
Ricardo Arranz, President of the Villa Padierna Resort, stated how important SUR in English has been for the promotion of golf on the Costa del Sol: “For the past thirty years SUR in English has been a promoter and supporter of golf and great source of golf information,” he said.
The tour is open to all amateur players who have a licence from a Spanish or foreign association and begins on 27th April at the Atalaya Old Course in Marbella.
Michael Campbell, who is currently a member of the European Tour, recently opened a his new golf academy which offers a complete golfing educational programme.
On Thursday he said he was proud to be supporting the SUR in English 30 Years Golf Tour, organised in collaboration with Villa Padierna, the club he has chosen for his academy.
“Some people ask why I have chosen to start an academy here. I live just round the corner and I feel like this area is part of me,” stated the 2005 US Open Winner.
“I have had a great career, but now I feel like it is time to give back. We have a vision to inspire young professionals, the kids are our main focus; I believe we can make a difference to golf in southern Spain,” he said at the SUR in English Tour launch.
Prizes will be given to the first three players of each category handicap in each tournament. Joyería Aurelio Marcos has also donated a Rolex watch worth over 5,000 euros for a hole in one in the final.
The organisation of this tour is just one of the many events that SUR in English is carrying out this year to celebrate its 30 years.
