Hundreds of film fanatics are expected to descend on Marbella for the town’s annual international film festival this week (October 2nd to 6th).
A red carpet will be rolled out during the five-day event that will see more than 40 independent films screened at the H10 Andalucía Plaza and the Palacio de Congresos.
Festival organisers are promising that this year’s event will be the biggest and best yet with features, animations and documentaries making up some of the submissions from around the world.
Films are will be screened in their original language with English subtitles, or if they are already in English, Spanish subtitles will be displayed.
Access to the festival is free but visitors can make a donation to the World Trust, a charitable foundation that helps independent filmmakers.
Jo-Anne Frisa Van Tuijl, a co-ordinator at the Film Festival, told SUR in English: “The festival is growing every year. This year’s news is that there are important Spanish films involved and that we will be showing them at the Palacio de Congresos in Marbella.”
As part of the festival budding filmmakers are invited to take part in a 24 hour Film Challenge on Friday October 4th.
Teams must script, shoot, edit and submit a three to four minute short film on a given subject matter.
All submitted films will be shown on the last day of the festival before visitors vote for their favourite film. The registration fee for the 24 Hour Film Challenge is €150 per team.
A Marbella Film Festival spokesman added: “Over the years, many participants of the Marbella 24 Hour Film Challenge have discovered this event to be a most helpful platform to promote their future work. The challenge is a fast and effective way of adding to their credits, creating a show-reel for their actors, crew and the production team.
“The participants have succeeded in achieving international recognition on the back of association with this prestigious Film Festival and not to mention the opportunity of networking with some of the most talented international film professionals.”
The event ends with a glamorous Gala Awards Dinner at the H10 Andalucía Plaza on Sunday 6th October at 8pm.
