As part of its ongoing crusade to recover the funds that were illicitly filtered away during the ‘GIL era’ Marbella town hall has urged the Accounts Tribunal to place an embargo on 150 assets belonging to firms linked to the four children of the late Jesús Gil. In April 2011 the Tribunal ordered Jesús, Miguel Ángel, Fernando and Mari Ángeles Gil Marín, along with former mayor Julián Muñoz, and former deputy Pedro Román, to pay back 108 million euros to the town hall.
The property included in the list includes 43 business premises, six residential properties, five plots of land and 96 garage spaces registered in the name of firms linked to the family such as Club Financiero Inmobiliario and Promotor Alhambra, among others.
Last week similar embargoes were placed on properties belonging to firms linked to Pedro Román.
“If they [the tribunal] accept these embargoes, together with those already placed on firms and assets related to the former deputy mayor Pedro Román, we believe we can secure an important part of the money that disappeared from the town hall coffers in Marbella,” said municipal spokesman Félix Romero on Tuesday.
