Shooting victim had reported gunman's father for abuse
A neighbour looks at the scene of the shooting. S. Salas
A 30 year old mother of two underwent four and a half hours of surgery last Tuesday after being shot twice in the abdomen in Churriana. The shooting occurred while Inés Díaz was sharing a drink with her boyfriend in his car parked near the local fairground.
The alleged gunman, a 40 year old local man, turned himself in to police later on the Tuesday.
The rift between the two families was well known in the neighbourhood. The victim, who has two daughters aged eight and nine, had reported the arrested man's father for abusing her eldest child. The man's family declared that the accusations were false.
Inés had since told relatives that the alleged abuser's son had threatened her, even going as far as saying that he would shoot her twice. The issue came to a head in the early hours of Tuesday morning last week when the arrested man passed the couple's parked vehicle on his way to the stables where he worked. He apparently stopped his motorbike and Inés's boyfriend had encouraged him to "smoke the peace pipe" with her regarding the abuse issue. He later returned with a trolley which contained the shotgun with which he broke the car window and fired at Inés at point blank range, hitting her twice in the abdomen.
