Urdangarin judge could be disciplined over leaks

As the Urdangarin embezzlement and fraud investigation continues, the General Council for the Judiciary (CGPJ) has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against the Mallorca judge in charge of the enquiry after details of the case were leaked to the press. The decision is unusual in that previous accusations of a similar nature have always been shelved. This latest case has been brought by the defence layer of former Balearic president, Jaume Matas, also indicted by Judge José Castro Aragón in the case in which the King’s son-in-law is accused of embezzlement and fraud.
Meanwhile the Infanta Cristina has been in Barcelona this week for professional reasons in her role as international director of La Caixa Foundation. She allowed herself to be photographed in the city’s central Calle Diagonal but made no comment to the press. During her visit to Spain she met with her husband’s lawyer, Mario Pascual Vives. He described the meeting as a “courtesy call” and added that naturally the Infanta was “worried” about the case. He did not specify whether she was worried solely for her husband or about the growing allusions to her own involvement.
In fact the “pseudo-trade union” Manos Limpias, has called for Cristina to be brought in for questioning as a witness since she co-owns one of the firms involved in the case and was on the board of the Nóos Institute. Manos Limpias appears as a plaintiff in the Urdangarin case as the “popular prosecution”, acting on behalf of the people”.
